Can I choose my own prosthetist or orthotist?

Unless your insurance plan requires you to stay in a network, each time you need a brace or leg, yes, you can choose your own orthotist or prosthetist.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring your current orthosis or prosthesis, your prescription, and your current insurance information. If either your orthosis or prosthesis is above the knee please wear or bring a pair of shorts.

What should I do if the fit of my brace or prosthesis changes or breaks?

STOP wearing your leg or brace and contact your orthotist or prosthetist immediately. Do not attempt to fix it yourself.

How often should my brace or prosthesis be replaced?

With children’s braces, they need to be changed as the child grows, parts wear out, or break. With adults, similar reasons, change in limb, part replacement or breakage.
You should replace a prosthesis, when your residual limb changes or the number of socks you are wearing is up to 15 ply.

I need a breast prosthesis, what do I need to bring with me?

Bring your prescription, your current prosthesis if you have one, along with your bra. Also if you have a horizontal striped shirt, wear that or bring it. And please be sure to bring your current insurance information.

My Doctor recommended diabetic shoes, what are they and what do I do get them?

Diabetic shoes are shoes designed specifically for the diabetic patient. These shoes have a bigger toe box(deeper) to accommodate the special inserts and allow adequate room as well as flatter seams inside the shoe. Many insurance companies will allow for a pair of shoes a year with inserts. You will need a prescription for these shoes.

My Doctor recommends support hose, there are so many different kinds and will my insurance company pay for them?

Support hose/socks or compression garments come in a variety of compressions and styles, this is true. We carry a full line of Jobst men’s compression hose/socks. These are socks that look just like every day dress socks, the only difference being they come in the compressions of 8-15mmHg, 15-20mmHg, 20-30mmHg, and 30-40mmHg, in knee high and thigh high and in a variety of colors.

We also provide Women's support hose, that look like everyday hose. They come in 8-15mmHg, 15-20mmHg, 20-30mmHg and 30-40mmHg compressions.

These come in knee high, thigh high and panty hose. They too, offer a variety of colors in the different compressions.

Diabetic socks are also available, in the 8-15mmHg compression.

PLEASE NOTE: As a general rule insurance companies do not reimburse for support hose although there may BE exceptions. <-------

The best way to know for certain is to contact your insurance provider and ask. The easiest method to obtain compression garments is to pay for them up front and submit your claim.

If you wish to submit a claim to your insurance company, you will most likely need a prescription from your physician.
